Symptoms
Health problems today are not due to a lack of information. We have more access to information than ever before. So we don’t need more information. What we need is a greater understanding of how our body works. Symptoms are a prime example.
Unfortunately, many people don’t pay much attention to their health until they get sick. It is usually a symptom of some kind that causes us to pause. Why is that? Well, because symptoms are often times uncomfortable. If the symptom is bad enough we are willing to do almost anything to make it go away. Think about the last time you experienced a symptom. It wasn’t pleasant, was it?
Did you know symptoms are your body’s way of trying to get your attention? Symptoms are body signals that indicate a deeper underlying problem. It is your body’s natural alarm system. Usually, the cause of the symptom has been present in the body long before you were aware of the symptom itself.
Think about a fire alarm. When you hear a fire alarm go off, it indicates that there is a fire. While the alarm itself may be loud and irritating, that is not the real problem. The real problem is the fire. If you were at work and you heard a fire alarm in your building would you turn off the alarm and go back to work? Of course not, you would deal with the fire. Yet we take this approach with our body quite often. Most modern treatments focus on masking symptoms rather than dealing with the root cause itself. When people are struggling with symptoms like headaches or back pain they will often turn to medication like Panadol. If the symptom is severe enough they may even choose to receive a steroid jab. Masking or covering up a symptom may provide temporary relief but it doesn’t correct the actual problem. In fact it enables us to ignore the real issue which only gets worse over time.
While Chiropractic is very effective in relieving symptoms, the real benefit lies in its ability to correct the root cause. By correcting the underlying problem chiropractic can not only help you feel better but more importantly it can help your body function better so that you can have the health and the life that you want.
Isn’t it time we stopped chasing symptoms and started pursuing health?
